NEET & JEE Photo Upload Guide 2026 — Specs, Common Errors, Fixes
Step-by-step guide to uploading NEET UG, NEET PG, and JEE Main 2026 photos correctly. Covers all NTA portal quirks.
The NTA portal is unforgiving — wrong dimension, wrong KB, wrong format and you're stuck restarting the upload. Here's everything you need.
The exact specs

Step-by-step upload
1. Take a fresh photo against a plain white or light background. Don't reuse old IDs. 2. Crop and resize using the right tool above. The output will be the exact dimension and KB the portal expects. 3. Sign on white paper with a black or dark blue ballpoint. Photograph or scan it. 4. Resize the signature with our resizer (signature variant for the same exam). 5. Open the NTA portal, navigate to the upload section. 6. Upload photo first, wait for confirmation, then signature. 7. Verify the preview — both should display correctly. If the photo is rotated, fix it before re-uploading.
Common NTA portal errors
"Photo size should be between X and Y KB"
You uploaded a file outside the band. Re-run through our resizer, which lands inside the band by default.
"Image dimension is not as per specifications"
Wrong pixel size. Use the exam-specific resizer linked above.
"Photo not as per specifications"
Usually means: face too small, background not white, glasses reflecting, or photo too old. See the Top 8 Reasons Passport Photos Get Rejected — the rules are nearly identical.
"Upload failed — please try again"
NTA portal occasionally times out. Try a different browser (Chrome works most reliably) or use mobile hotspot if your wifi is slow.
After successful upload
- Take a screenshot of the confirmation page. - Print the application form as a backup. - Save your application number somewhere safe.
